Nestled along the scenic Alameda de Basilio Teles in the heart of Porto, Confeitaria Portilho is a charming gem that effortlessly blends the warmth of a traditional café with the vibrant appeal of a gourmet grocery and pastry haven. This delightful destination caters to a diverse palette, serving as a café, bakery, beer store, cake shop, coffee shop, ice cream parlor, gourmet grocery store, and pastry shop all in one inviting space.
From the moment you step inside, the intimate setting beckons you with cozy charm, complemented by thoughtful service that feels genuinely personal. Regulars and new visitors alike praise the hosts' warmth and attentiveness, underscoring the wonderful atmosphere that truly makes you feel at home. The café’s pavement seating is perfectly positioned next to the tram tracks, adding a touch of Porto’s vibrant city life to your experience without ever overpowering the tranquility of the riverside views.
The menu at Confeitaria Portilho is a delicate symphony of flavors that invites you to indulge slowly and savor every bite. Whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee break or a more leisurely snack, their offering shines with freshly brewed coffee delights like the velvety Кофе Латте, paired beautifully with a crisp and tangy Zumo Naranja to brighten your palate. For those craving something more substantial, the sandwiches provide a satisfying bite, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients that highlight the café’s gourmet spirit.
No visit is complete without sampling their famed pastéis de nata—often heralded by visitors like Urszula Wołoszyn as the best in Porto. These iconic Portuguese custard tarts boast a golden, flaky crust and a luscious, creamy filling that melts effortlessly on the tongue. Accompany it with a small beer or a perfectly brewed Americano to complete what one guest lovingly dubs their “Croatian breakfast” ritual.
But Confeitaria Portilho surprises and delights beyond pastries and coffee. Its selection of artisanal beers and gourmet groceries invites exploration, making it a unique one-stop spot for connoisseurs and casual visitors alike. The ice cream offerings are a further sweet touch, perfect for a warm Porto afternoon.
What truly sets Confeitaria Portilho apart is its nurturing hospitality and the thoughtful details that create a memorable experience. Whether you're enjoying a casual lunch—testing the satisfying fish and fries or the succulent hamburger as Gill Bunting did—or simply unwinding with a coffee and an orange pastry while watching the river shimmer, every moment here feels special. The combination of great food, exceptional service, and stunning vistas crafts an authentic Porto escape that beckons you to stay just a little longer.
In a city brimming with cafés, Confeitaria Portilho stands out not only for its delicious offerings but for the genuine community spirit it fosters. It’s a place where every sip and bite is made better by the kindness of the hosts and the beauty of the surroundings — a truly heartwarming experience that lingers like the perfect aftertaste.
great coffee, pastries and drinks. the hosts are super nice and the service is amazing and really thoughtful! with an amazing view over the river — one of our favourite places in porto for a reasonably priced coffee-break :)
Ic and Flic spotted this little café as we wandered down the north side of the river towards the sea. Small inside but good pavement seating next to the tram tracks. Stopped for what we call our Croatian breakfast ... Americano and a small beer. 3 small beers, 3 coffees and a diet Coke for 9.40€. The boys also ordered a nata for 1.2€...yummy. Lovely pit stop.
Amazing place - great atmosphere! Best pastel de nata I have ever ate in Porto And most important- very nice owners
Sweet and perfect place for breakfast. Nice staff and great food! !!!! Everything here is sooooooo great and cute just like you are at home. Highly recommend!
Called in for lunch while out seeing Porto on our bikes. Excellent service by the waiter. Fish & fries & hamburger we're both excellent. Great french fries! Followed by coffee and an orange pastry. Thank you for your hospitality.
They have a menu in english and have alternative to milk (Soy). The person also speaks fluent english without a doubt! try that sauce at your own risk - when i say micro-drop i mean size of an ant will you
Not a fancy establishment, but the staff is friendly and the location is a pristine location by the river. I would recommend visiting for breakfast or a midday coffee, but not for a more substantial meal. As with most places in Porto, cash is preferred but credit cards are accepted. Lots of pastries and small sandwiches with delicious espresso-based coffee drinks.
